Yes. It was a coaster-making weekend.
Here are four sets that I created on Saturday night. It was getting late, so the photo quality is really bad. : (
These are really easy to make. You can get the 4 x 4 inch tiles at any home improvement store.
I bought a box of 100 (yes ONE HUNDRED) biscuit colored tiles at Menard’s for $16.00. You can buy them singly for $0.16 too. I’m going to be making a lot of them, so I just bit the bullet and bought a box of them.
I need to get a box of the WHITE ones too.
You’ll also need some patterned paper. I’m using scrapbook paper that I’ve had in my stash for a few months.
Mod Podge (the matte finish version) is what I use to glue down the paper to the tiles and to coat the top of the paper. I give each coaster at least three coats of Mod Podge.
To give the coasters a water-resistant finish, I also give each coaster two or three coats of matte finish sealant. I found some at Menard’s — but you can find it at any home improvement store or big box store. Heck, you can probably find it at your local supermarket. And, of course, you can find it online.
Once the coasters are dry, I put a square, thin piece of cork on the back. This covers up the less-than-attractive grid pattern on the backside and also creates a protective surface for countertops and furniture.
I’m hosting a craft workshop at my office in a few weeks and we’re going to make coasters like the ones shown above.
I love the fact that I can share my passion of creating things with others.
After many years, I think I’ve finally figured out my “purpose” or “passion” :
My purpose is to LOVE.
My purpose is to CREATE.
My purpose is to TEACH.
I’d love to know: What’s your life purpose?
