It’s true: another sewing machine joins the family. I just purchased a vintage Husqvarna Viking Model 6690 from the online Goodwill store.
Did I need another sewing machine? Heck no!
But, I’ve been looking for a Husqvarna machine for several months. I’ve bid on a few of them, but they’ve all slipped away to someone else.
I’m in the process of cleaning it up; but it seems to be in REALLY great condition. Can’t wait to put it through its paces.
Notice that large worktable? Isn’t that a hunk of plastic? Indeed it is!
It fit’s perfectly around the free-arm and gives me a huge amount of workspace for projects.
The machine came with one presser foot, the worktable, accessory tray (you can see it under the worktable). I bought some special bobbins from a guy on eBay. This machine does not use the C66 bobbin or the Class “C” bobbin — in case you’re wondering.
This machine offers a large stitch width and length too. All the way up to 6mm. I’ve only seen machines that have a maximum of 5mm. How cool is that?
I learned that this model was the very first ‘electronic’ sewing machine that Husqvarna made. It was put on the market in the very early 1980s as I understand it.
How am I going to use this ‘new’ machine? Glad you asked. I’m most-likely going to use it in my junk journal-making process. You know, like stitching the edges of tags, pockets, etc.
Let me know if you happen to have this same model. I’d love to hear about your experience with it. I did read a less-than-great review (after I bought the machine) that this particular model had major trouble with the electronic components.
And then I’ve also read reviews where people say, “if you find one of these — buy it!”. But you know how reviews go, right? Yeah.
No worries. I’m going to use it and have fun with it.
What sewing machines do you have? Leave a comment below.
I have 2 of these…one is the 1982 Anniversary model. Hubby bought it new around that time. It is an amazing sewing machine. I’ve even made leather jackets with it!
Thanks for the comment. Sorry it took me FOREVER to reply. Hope all is well in your world!
